Virtual Technology Review in Healthcare

Virtual reality (VR) is the capability to interact with a digitally replicated object or environment that is similar to an actual-world experience for the user. In healthcare settings, the technology is used to improve the movement for rehabilitation patients or to keep them occupied and relaxed during medical procedures. But, VR is in the early stages of use and uptake in the clinical setting. In this article, we offer a scoping review of the existing literature identifying obstacles and facilitators to the implementation of VR in healthcare settings.


The majority of barriers identified by this study were related the adopter system categories and organizational categories within the NASSS framework. This included the requirement for healthcare providers to be educated and trained regarding VR, the absence of research and evidence on the value added by virtual reality in www.iptech.one/the-most-expensive-gaming-pc/ the context of treatment, and the perception of a lack of confidence and self-efficacy to use VR in patient care. Numerous studies have suggested using methods of behavioral change, such as education and training or intervision groups to support clinicians' decision-making procedures with respect to VR.


Facilitators were not as often identified due to the young age of patients who may be more open to technology and feel more comfortable with it, or the fact that VR could create an immersive and interactive learning environment that stimulates the senses as well as fostering deeper understanding of complex scientific concepts. VR's ability of re-creating real-world settings such as the surface or structure of atoms, can be a powerful educational tool that allows students to explore and experiment abstract and complex concepts.
