But they're not terrible characters

This doesn't hold back the fan service and Sonic fans like me will definitely be happy with the way the story was handled, but also the way they handled the characters, the visuals, and even the music. The human characters Tom and Maddie are probably the only element in this film that can be done with or without. They don't really have much of a purpose other than to move the story along. I like them a lot, they just don't get much screen time. But I'm also okay with that because we come to these movies to see Sonic and the gang. Jim Carrey proves once again why he's he's the perfect cast for Doctor Eggman. Not only that, but he pulls double duty in this movie.

He truly embodies Shadow's complex character and tragic past

It's so much fun to watch him play both characters and you can feel his energy in this role and how much he loves playing it. This is also his first role which he returns for the third time in his expansive career. It's great to see that he's still around after all these years. Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow is another incredible choice for this character. You can really feel the raw emotion of his performance. Honestly, if Sega wanted to hire these voices to be in their next Sonic game, I wouldn't be disappointed. It's not that their video game counterparts are bad, it's just how good the film actors are in the roles.

It felt a little rushed at times, but overall it's done really well

The story in this movie is so well adapted and really brings the emotions you want from the kind of story they ;tell. Sonic is the most like his game self in this movie than in any other movie. This is great fun for any Sonic fan and/or family which I can go see this weekend. The only complaint I really have is that I wish the movie was a little longer so it could really develop Shadow's story a little more and give him more time to have more weight. You still feel the emotional pull on the heartstrings that they're trying to make the audience feel, I just wish there was more.
